The most common question asked by our rideshare and private hire clients is
“How do you recharge your Tesla?”
Recharging At Base
We have equipped a high-power 32 amp socket at our base to recharge after a busy day. We can fully recharge our Tesla vehicles to full range in less than 8 hours overnight. The cost of this electricity is approximately $10 (20c/unit * 50kWh battery) during standard tariff times. Compare this to over $50 in fuel for the same range in a combustion vehicle. Plugging in our Tesla is quicker than waiting in the queue for a fuel bowser, filling then paying for petrol.
When not working during the day we can utilise the free power generated by our 6.6kW roof-top solar system. A full charge during the day eliminates the power company fees and allows us to run on ‘green’ energy. Surplus electricity is exported to the grid and offsets our night-time energy use.
For the average owner, the Mobile Connector included with every new Tesla is enough to recharge daily use. The travel charger connects to a standard 10 amp outlet. This is sufficient to recharge 15KM of range per hour, or 150KM in 10 hours. A weekly 10-hour charge would get an average commuter to work and back for a week.
Recharging On The Road
We recharge using one of a growing number of Ultra-Rapid chargers around Perth and the South-West when on the road. These can recharge our Tesla vehicles from empty to full in around 45 minutes, and cost less than $20. We take this chance to have a meal break as we normally recharge between two 4-6 hour driving sessions. This rapid charging is again less than 1/4 the cost of filling a combustion vehicle. Ultra-Rapid chargers such as those from Chargefox use renewable energy sources to further decrease our carbon footprint.
For the average owner, many shopping centres, parking complexes and hotels are installing ‘destination chargers’. They are generally free or low cost for the visitors to these venues. If you in a suitable area, you can do the shopping while recharging your electric vehicle for free! This presents a better deal than a few cents off the cost of fossil fuels.
We hope this has answered some of your questions, but feel free to Contact Us or your local Tesla or EV group for more information.
